2. Hook-Straight combo
1. Hook: The hook is a curved punch thrown with a semi-circular motion, targeting the side of your opponent's head or body. It generates power from your hips and core rotation. To execute a hook:
- Start in a proper stance with your hands up, chin tucked, and knees slightly bent.
- Rotate your lead shoulder forward while pivoting on your lead foot (for orthodox fighters, it's the left hand and left foot).
- Bend your elbow to a 90-degree angle, bringing your fist across your body in a sweeping motion.
- Aim to strike with the knuckles of your index and middle fingers, keeping your wrist aligned.
2. Straight: The straight punch is a powerful punch thrown with your rear hand (right hand for orthodox fighters, left hand for southpaws). It delivers direct force to your target. To execute a straight punch:
- Transfer your weight from your back foot to your front foot, rotating your hips and shoulders.
- Extend your rear hand straight out, following a direct line towards your target.
- Rotate your fist, so your palm faces the ground upon impact.
- Recoil your hand quickly back to your guard position.
The Hook-Straight combo is effective because it combines the circular and sweeping motion of the hook with the straight and linear power of the straight punch. It allows you to generate momentum, create angles, and capitalize on openings. Here are some additional tips for the Hook-Straight combo:
